The Domain of Media
In my study ICM I had the assignment to take the career personality test using Hollands theory. After I took the test I had to use the results to reflect my interests, abilities and skills. This theory is very well known to find out where your interests are and which future career you should pursue in order to live a satisfied and happy life. John Holland, an American psychologist, created this theory.
These are my results (from right to left are realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising, conventional listed):
I already expected that my score for artistic abilities would be very high, since I really like to express myself creatively. The high score for the social personality also makes a lot of sense to me because I really enjoy working in a group. The high score for the enterprise personality also makes sense to me, because I do like to take the lead, although I feel like that is not always the case. When it comes to themes I do not know much about or do not really interest me I am more shy and tend to be in the back round. On the other hand, when it comes to themes I am super interested in, I am very energetic, passionate and give a hundred percent. I feel like I could be a mixture between an artistic, social and enterprising personality.
My main interests are photography, video, magazines, printing, graphic design, craftsmanship, podcasts, multimedia, developing own projects, interviewing people, singing, dancing, visiting art exhibitions and so much more.
In my opinion, I have quite a lot of technical skills, since I always enjoyed working on computers. I really enjoy working on Adobe programs like InDesign, Lightroom, PremierePro, After Effects and Illustrator.
I also always enjoyed to teach myself certain things. For example, I taught myself playing the guitar/ piano, working on adobe programs, how to use a camera, edit videos and so much more. I really like to develop my own project/ ideas and work independently and express myself creatively. On the other side I also really enjoy working in groups, if the group atmosphere is in harmony. I was always a very motivated person and if I set myself a goal, I do everything so I can eventually reach it.
I researched about communication in Linkedin, although media is my profile of interest. I find the profile media very interesting, because I like the broadness of it. There are so many directions! You can work as a journalist, an editor, social media manager, interviewer, writer, photographer, video producer, blogger and so much more. The list could go on and on and I really like endless possibilities. I am also very interested in multimedia, where you can connect all the professions like video making/ editing, writing, taking pictures, graphic design and audio. I feel like I am the kind of person who needs diversion and constant change in my future profession. If I would concentrate myself on only one of these activities like, for example, graphic design, I think I would eventually get bored and unhappy. Multimedia would give me the possibility to constantly be challenged and faced with something new and exciting.
I guess my interest towards media came very naturally to me and I never expected myself in this field in my future career. I have created my own magazine when I was 17 years old and slowly started to build my skills from then on. I know how to use several Adobe programs, interview people, organize events, manage everything around social media, build my own website/blog and so much more. I am generally open to new experiences and challenges. I guess the fact that it was never my goal to go into the direction of media and that I simply did what I liked to do is a sign, that I should transfer this to my future career. In my opinion, you should always do what you love. Practicing your profession should not be something you do not like to do, it should rather be something you really enjoy! I think that is the key to live a happy and fulfilled life.
